The 4th Worst film of 2017: 9/11

This blog has been inactive for a few months, because we've had better things to do. But it's back now with the rage of a bull that's just been served his divorce papers by his wife's lover. Our purpose is renewed thanks to the existence of the horrendous melodrama 9/11.

Charlie Sheen has a few choice conspiracy theories about 9/11. Yet here he is, in a woefully cheap story that boasts 1990s star Gina Gershon, 1991 Oscar Winner Whoopi Goldberg and Luis Guzman, an actor who can play anything from a man with a lisp to a slightly more aggressive man with a lisp. The point is this: several washed-up actors get stuck in a lift on September 11th. Will Sheen and Gershon reconcile? Will Whoopi help them escape? You don't care because you're preoccupied with the sheer tastelessness on screen, after all, why right a compelling drama when you can simply siphon off emotion from an international tragedy?

Oddly, when their tower is struck the lift occupants barely react, and the tower itself only shows damage when it is convenient for drama's sake. Then again, if the creatures behind this film showed any of the real-life damage or cut to anywhere other than the easily constructed sets of the lift and Whoopi's control room, the production budget would increase from the few sheckles they cobbled together to pay the desperate Sheen and company.

This is only the 4th worst film of 2017 as far as BoxedGlobe is concerned. Somehow a film exploiting 9/11 is still leagues ahead of The Emoji Movie.

NOTHING. NO RATING. It's not deserving. If they had tried to make a proper drama that did justice to 9/11, they wouldn't have cast Charlie Sheen in the lead role.
